In the era of earth-safety advocacy, we all should put more effort into making the earth sustainable. Having a nursery is being pro-earth already. You should take more steps to make it sustainable, beginning with getting sustainable nursery containers.
Sustainable planters: Get yourself sustainable and eco-friendly growers. If you get them from the appropriate sources, they are strong, durable, and beautiful in design. Yet, they are biodegradable and do not cause pollution to the soil. You should get one of these.
Recycle: You want to ensure that you have a trusted recycling process. Recycle water; do not let it waste or runoff. Recycle organic substances, and use pruned or thinned plants for mulching. Also, when you transplant, reuse containers.
Conserve Water: Manage your water. You can arrange your nursery planters in layers so that water from the upper plants during irrigation can get to ones in the lower tiers. Save water.
Organic manure: Use nature-abounding substances and wastes to make plant manure. Synthetic fertilizers and plant hormones are often dangerous, polluting the earth, killing soil organisms, and blocking natural elements. So, cut down the use of herbicides and pesticides. Seek organic products with OMRI certification and mulch with either wet or dried plants.
Make Compost: Whether from homemade foods and wastes or animal cum farm waste, create compost for your plants. Green compost will use dead plants, soil, grass, flower petals, food waste, etc.
Use Less Paper: As much as possible, reduce paper products which would lead to paper waste. However, there are sustainable papers now, and you can get those instead only when necessary. Otherwise, push all paper waste to a paper-recycling trash can.
Plan your sustainable nursery before you begin; that way, you know what to expect and prepare your heart.
