Comedians are famous for how much they can brighten up a room: so hiring one is the right call for countless people. What about corporate events? This is everything you need to know in order to decide if a comedian is a right fit for yours!
What Type of Corporate Event Is It?
What type of event is this? Are you announcing layoffs and huge company reworkings, or are you congratulating your employees on breaking records within the industry? Generally, avoid hiring a comedian if the event is one that trends negatively or could leave your employees questioning if the employee was there to mock them.
Consider giving your comedian some tips about the company and about supervisors and managers to ensure that they have an in to add lightness to whatever type of event it is: but aim for a happier one.
How Long is it Going to Last?
How long is the event expected to last, and how long will you want the comedian to perform? Of course, you can always ask them to only arrive at a certain time once the event is well underway; most comedians doing stand-up sets only expect around 15 to 45 minutes of actual work. If you want more than this, or you want them to host the event, that’s going to be an entirely different charge, and you’ll have to work that out with them ahead of time.
How Many People Are Attending?
The number of guests and employees that will be there can change how a comedian is received. In a large crowd, people are more likely to feel comfortable laughing and cutting loose, while in a group of ten or fewer people, it might be awkward to react. Don’t book a comedian for a group any smaller than 20 people. Although this might work with the right crowd, it’s better to avoid risking an awkward encounter.
How Soon Is The Event?
When is the event scheduled to happen? If it’s within the next couple of weeks, you’re going to have to scramble to find someone who’s the right fit, and even then, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to afford them.
Shop around at least a month ahead of time, and try to find a comedian that matches your needs while also working within your budget and is available during the event’s time. The further out you plan, the better.
What’s Your Budget Like?
When hiring entertainment, it’s vital for your budget to be able to handle whoever you’re trying to bring on. If you have a larger budget, you have less to worry about, but if you’re working on a firmer budget that can handle less: you’ll need to consider if a comedian is a right fit. Although we could all use some laughter, it’s important for them to get paid for the incredible work they do! Consider asking for a larger budget or holding off until a future event can handle it.
Comedians Can Be the Perfect Fit for Corporate Events
Although some may think every corporate event needs to be serious: comedy can be a great way to mix things up! Making an event exciting can get everyone more interested, so don’t be afraid to try new things!
